Kyoto Fusioneering to Relocate U.S. HQ to Tennessee and Deliver UNITY-3 with ORNL, a First-of-Its-Kind Facility to De-Risk Fusion Technology

Kyoto Fusioneering (KF) is relocating its U.S. headquarters to Oak Ridge, Tennessee, and will construct a new facility, UNITY-3, in collaboration with Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL). The facility is designed to be the first in the world to test and validate the complete system for a fusion power plant’s heat extraction and tritium fuel cycle. UNITY-3 will focus on the integrated performance of the breeding blanket, a component essential for achieving a self-sustaining D-T fuel cycle by producing tritium from lithium. The UNITY-3 facility will provide a platform for testing the entire thermal and fuel cycle loop, from the breeding blanket to the power conversion system. Its primary objective is to generate engineering data under integrated and representative conditions, which is crucial for the design and licensing of future commercial fusion power plants. By simulating the operational environment of a fusion reactor's core-adjacent components, the facility will allow for the validation of thermal-hydraulic performance, tritium extraction efficiency, and materials compatibility.
