Fusion power startups find new partners in the defense world
The U.S. Department of Defense has awarded contracts to six private fusion companies through its Defense Innovation Unit, signaling renewed military interest in compact fusion systems for power generation and space propulsion.
The Pentagon’s Defense Innovation Unit (DIU) has awarded contracts to six private fusion developers to demonstrate compact, high-power fusion prototypes. The selected companies are Avalanche Energy, Focused Energy, Helion, Type One Energy, Xcimer Energy, and Zap Energy.
