FIA Submits Response to NRC’s Proposed Rulemaking and Draft Guidance for US Fusion Regulations
The Fusion Industry Association has submitted its formal response to the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission's (NRC) proposed regulations for fusion energy.
The FIA's submission, made on May 21st, addresses the NRC's request for public comments on the proposed rulemaking and draft guidance for fusion energy, which were initially released in February.
The association expressed gratitude to the NRC Commissioners and Staff for their collaborative efforts throughout the development of these regulations. The FIA anticipates the eventual publication of the final rule.
The FIA emphasizes that risk-informed regulations, specifically designed for fusion technology and distinct from those for fission, are essential for the safe and efficient commercialization of fusion power.
