UKAEA opens new fusion research centre
The UK Atomic Energy Authority has inaugurated a £22 million fusion materials and technology facility in South Yorkshire to support its STEP prototype power plant program and the broader fusion industry.
The UK Atomic Energy Authority (UKAEA) has officially opened its new Fusion Technology Facility at the Advanced Manufacturing Park in Rotherham. The 25,000 square foot building will serve as a national hub for developing and testing materials and components intended for future fusion power plants. The facility's primary mission is to enable industry to participate in the commercialization of fusion energy by providing the necessary infrastructure to test components under conditions simulating a fusion environment, including high heat flux and strong magnetic fields.
