Marvel Fusion breaks ground on €150M laser facility in Bavaria
Munich-based inertial confinement startup begins construction of high-repetition-rate laser test platform.
Marvel Fusion broke ground on a €150 million high-repetition-rate laser test facility outside Munich. The facility will host a 1 PW pulsed laser array intended to validate the company's nanostructured deuterium-tritium target concept at engineering scale.
Marvel's approach uses ultra-short laser pulses on resonantly tuned nanostructures to drive direct ignition without the indirect-drive hohlraum geometry used at the U.S. National Ignition Facility. The company has raised €113 million across two rounds since 2019.
