Pranos Fusion

Indian startup building a compact high-field tokamak, HTS magnet program, and digital-twin software stack — targeting first plasma in 2026 from Bengaluru.

Pranos Fusion is an Indian deep-tech startup founded in May 2024 by Shaurya Kaushal (CEO) and Roshan George (COO), headquartered in Bengaluru. The company is developing compact tokamak technology alongside an indigenous high-temperature superconducting (HTS) magnet supply chain and an integrated software platform for reactor design and plasma control.[1]

Technology Stack

Pranos is pursuing a vertically integrated approach with three named technology programs:

PRAGYA — India's first privately developed tokamak. PRAGYA is a low-aspect-ratio, medium-scale device designed to leverage the compact tokamak's favorable scaling properties: higher plasma pressure relative to magnetic pressure, natural elongation, and strong bootstrap current fraction. First plasma is targeted for 2026.[1]

JENGA — A software platform bridging tokamak concept design and machine operation. JENGA integrates digital-twin simulation, plasma equilibrium calculations, and real-time control algorithms into a unified environment for rapid design iteration and operational planning.[2]

MAGGA — A high-temperature superconducting magnet R&D program aimed at establishing domestic Indian manufacturing capability for fusion-grade HTS magnets. This addresses a critical supply-chain gap, as HTS tape and magnet fabrication are currently concentrated in a small number of international suppliers.[2]

Institutional Partnerships

Pranos is co-incubated at the Institute of Plasma Research (IPR) — India's premier government fusion laboratory, which operates the SST-1 and Aditya-U tokamaks — and at the Innovation and Development Centre of the Jawaharlal Nehru Centre for Advanced Scientific Research (JNCASR). These partnerships provide access to experimental facilities, plasma physics expertise, and materials science capabilities.[3]

Funding

Pranos raised $6.8 million in a pre-Series A round co-led by pi Ventures and Ankur Capital, with participation from returning investor Industrial47 and angel investors including Groww co-founder Lalit Keshre and the founders of Razorpay. The company previously raised INR 3.5 crore in a pre-seed round from Industrial47 and INR 20 lakh through the Startup India Seed Fund.[1]

Pranos is one of the first private-sector tokamak ventures in India, emerging alongside a broader wave of Indian fusion startups including Anubal Fusion. The company benefits from India's existing tokamak expertise at IPR.
